Q. What types of substance abuse do you treat?

 

A. First Step Recovery treats the abuse of and dependence on all mood-altering substances.

This includes heroin and other opioids, alcohol, cocaine, benzodiazepines and amphetamines.

 

 

Q. What role does medication play in the detoxification process?

 

A. Medication may be prescribed for symptom relief during the withdrawal stage of detox.

 

 

Q. Do you see patients with co-occurring diagnoses?

 

A. Yes. First Step Recovery has Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors on staff to counsel patients

with mental health diagnoses such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, etc.

 

 

Q. Can patients smoke tobacco on the grounds?

 

A. Smoking is not permitted inside the facility. However, a designated smoking area is located

outdoors on First Step Recovery property.

 

 

Q. Does treatment at First Step Recovery include a twelve-step program?

 

A. Yes. 12-step meetings are an integral part of First Step Recovery’s rehab and aftercare programs.

 

 

Q. What forms of payment does First Step Recovery accept?

 

A. First Step Recovery accepts private insurance, Medicaid and self-payment.

 

 

Q. What are the signs of substance addiction?

 

A. Signs of substance abuse:

   Neglecting school work, job responsibilities or your children

 •  Missing school, work or appointments due to substance use

   Using a substance in a dangerous situation such as driving or operating machinery

   Continuing to use a substance despite substance-related legal problems or recurring

    relationship problems

 

    Signs of substance dependence:

 •  Needing to use more of the substance to experience the same effects previously

    experienced with smaller amounts

 •  Using a substance to avoid or relieve withdrawal symptoms

 •  Continuing to use despite experiencing negative physical or psychological conditions

    that result from using

   Having friends that only get together to use substances

   Spending a lot of time doing the following: thinking about using, acquiring the means to

    get the substance and actively searching out the substance

   Giving up or reducing social events or recreational activities that do not include using the substance

 •  Having the desire to stop using a substance and being unable to do so

 

 

Q. What is the admission process?

 

A. Admission to First Step Recovery is voluntary. Patients must be 18 years or older and meet the criteria for detoxification. A potential patient can be assessed at First Step Recovery via a self-referral, a referral by a friend or family member or by a professional (i.e., physician, counselor, psychologist, probation officer, judge, employer, etc.).
