Cindy Woodford

Joseph Lydon, MD

Chief Operating Officer

While beginning her career working in long-term care settings, Cindy developed an understanding of the leadership traits necessary to provide the best treatment for patients. She began her career in nursing home management and administration for Northwestern Service Corporation and later developed all aspects of their marketing and sales department during her tenure as corporate director of marketing. Cindy went on to hold several executive director positions at area assisted living facilities before developing an interest in working in the field of chemical dependency. While volunteering with patients who were dealing with chemical dependency issues, Cindy earned her chemical dependency license and continued her career as a licensed chemical dependency counselor working for New Start Treatment Center. Cindy holds credentials as an Ohio licensed chemical dependency counselor, substance abuse professional and certified tobacco treatment specialist. Cindy’s passion for providing effective, high-quality treatment has enabled her to successfully build an atmosphere of dignity and respect for all patients at First Step Recovery. Through her leadership, First Step Recovery is fulfilling their mission to treat the whole individual—mind, body and spirit.

Jennifer Clay, RN

Director of Nursing

Since 2002, Jennifer Clay has worked in the nursing field treating patients in a variety of settings. Previously, she worked as a travel nurse in the emergency departments and intensive care units at Princeton University and Stanford University. She later worked as a nurse at Glenbeigh. In her current role at First Step Recovery, she uses her experience and knowledge about patient diagnosis and treatment, as well as crisis intervention, to ensure that the registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and medical assistants provide the best patient care available. In addition to her administrative and supervisory tasks at First Step Recovery, Jennifer is dedicated to learning about and supporting each patient in their individual recovery from chemical dependency.

Since his graduation from medical school in 1986, Dr. Lydon has treated patients with a range of presenting issues and medical diagnoses. He has also completed training specific to chemical dependency, wherein he practiced at Rosary Hall (part of St. Vincent Charity Medical Center), Windsor-Laurelwood Center for Behavioral Medicine, New Directions, Stella Maris, Harbor Light and the Cleveland Methadone Clinic. In his work at First Step Recovery, he provides an optimistic outlook and helps to instill hope in his patients about their ability to achieve sustained recovery. He subscribes to the philosophy that chemical dependency is biologically-based and it can be successfully treated.

Amy Glinn, LSW, LCDC III

Intensive Outpatient Program Director/Counselor

After earning her bachelor’s degree from Youngstown State University, Amy began her career as a licensed social worker in a community care setting in 1992. She later worked as a chemical dependency counselor at Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic beginning in 2001. Her experience with chemical dependency treatment coupled with her training in cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational enhancement therapy, reality therapy and 12-step facilitation enable Amy to develop specialized programming that is best suited for the success of First Step Recovery’s patients. Amy helps to provide a strong foundation for patients’ ongoing sobriety by organizing and supervising groups that focus on holistic wellness and the 12-step recovery model—while involving patients’ families in the recovery process.

Clinical Staff

The counseling staff at First Step Recovery is comprised of master’s-level clinicians—including licensed professional clinical counselors and licensed social workers—as well as licensed chemical dependency counselors and assistants. Through individual and group counseling (in both inpatient and outpatient settings), the counseling staff provides patients with the necessary support for learning about chemical dependency, preventing relapse and facing personal triggers and life issues that contribute to alcoholism and drug addiction. Additionally, the counseling staff helps link patients to appropriate community resources that aid in smoothing their transition from treatment to their daily lives.

Our medical team—which includes board-certified physicians, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and medical assistants—provides expert care that promotes our clients’ success in achieving lifelong recovery.
